Se acabo la pesadilla!!

The nightmare is over!!!

Hello, I'm Joe, I'm from Colorado!!! Just like that we met Joe one year ago when Maria started her MA in CSR, and just like that we said goodbye to him when he had to suddenly come back to Denver. It has been fantastic to meet Joe, a great, friendly, cheerful, nice, awesome guy!! We wish you the best and we are sure that we'll see each other soon either in Europe or there in the little American Switzerland Colorado so that we can go skiing to Aspen.

Of course, we celebrated a party, dinner to say goodbye to him and so that we and he did not feel so sad because of his departure.

Sunday Roast!!

Sunday Roast!!

Our friend Elodie had not been lucky enough to try one of the best sunday roasts in Nottingham, the one served in the JA. The JA is one of the pubs close to University Park, and at times of studying and smashing your head against books, it is the best option if you do not want to make your perfect home-made meal and be ready for something really, really English. We recommend the place, not only because of the food, also beers and the fantastic garden on the back, which in sunny days is absolutely fantastique!!!

We spend there the sunday lunch so that Elodie wasn't going from Notts without a proper Sunday Roast and we continue with our battles of frisbie..Anyway it was a great fun and loads of smiles.

Barbacoa en casa de Mathiew!!

Barbeque at Mathiews´s!!!

What a better excuse to forget about the dissertation for a couple of hours than going to Mat's for a bbq!! Or what is a better plan on a summer afternoon in Nottingham!! So bbq... that's what we did yesterday, eat some few kilos of meat, drink some few liters of beer and play cards (killer and telefunken). The party lasted until 3am and just going out from Mat's we faced the best of the city....

Stanford y Berkeley

Stanford and Berkeley

Stanford University

University of Berkeley

You might know how crazy César is about the good American universities. Of course, we needed to visit two of the best universities in the world: Stanford and Berkeley. We went to Stanford because César had a symposium about those weird brain things he does. What a campus!!! Everywhere green grass, and a beautiful mixture of old and modern buildings. As César is a bit mythomaniac we wandered across the corridors of the statistics and electrical engineering department, where many professors César reads and studies their articles and books work. Now, he is not surprised why these guys are so good and publish such an incredible research, and the point is that they work door-to-door, ... :))

University of Berkeley

Another day we went to Berkeley, famous university because it was where the protest and hippie movements started in the 60s. It is also one of the best public universities in the US (Stanford is not public). The campus is smaller, but charming and full of wisdom, history and ease. We had the chance of watching a marvellous wedding, and visited the football Stadium. We also had a coffee in the terrace of the University café. Of course, the cups were recycled and organic... and all laptops were Mac.

Alcatraz, la roca

Alcatraz, The Rock

Of course, during our stay in San Francisco we went to The Rock. We did not see Sir Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage or Ed Harris, neither the famous rolling green balls, but we had a really great time. We got a bit surprised of how close Alcatraz is from SF and particularly of the wildlife in the island. It is said that the worst thing of being a prisoner in The Rock was to feel and hear the lively SF, so close but at the same time so far. In fact, the sights of the city from The Rock are breath-taking.

Of course we went into the penitentiary and the cells, which are a bit scary and respectful but, honestly, the ones who got there were not actual angels as being moved to Alcatraz was as a result of bad behaviour in other federal prison or being declared public enemy. Alcatraz is history and we could feel it. It turns out that many families lived there, the families of the penitentiary staff, with their children and wives. According to the testimonies, it was a calm place, far from the noisy city, and was considered as a small village where everybody was "family". I guess they were not aware of the dangerous rolling green balls... :))
